Religious History Association Conference Bursary Scheme

The Religious History Association is pleased to offer a limited number of bursaries to support members presenting papers on religious history topics at national or international academic conferences. Each successful applicant may receive up to AUD $1,000. The closing date for applications is August 30, 2025.

Eligibility

Applicants must be current members of the Religious History Association. (You can join the RHA here.) Priority will be given to:

  • Applicants without other institutional or current grant funding

  • Early Career Researchers (within 7 years of PhD/DPhil award, excluding relevant career interruptions)

  • Currently enrolled postgraduate research students in a relevant field

  • Individuals in precarious employment (casual/sessional, contract excluding fellowships with travel support, or part-time roles)

Eligible Costs

  • Travel (airfares and/or other transport)

  • Accommodation

  • Conference registration fees

Note: Per diem costs are not eligible and should not be included in the application.

Information for Applicants

  • Bursaries must be used within 12 months of the award date.

  • Funding will only be awarded for upcoming conferences, not retrospective travel.

  • Late applications will not be accepted.

  • The RHA’s decision is final; no correspondence or feedback will be provided.

  • Applicants will be notified of the outcome within two weeks of the closing date.

  • The Conference Bursary Panel may offer partial funding if necessary.

  • Payment will be handled by the RHA Treasurer.

  • Any publications resulting from the supported presentation should acknowledge RHA bursary assistance.

Assessment of Applications

Applications will be reviewed by a Conference Bursary Panel comprising members of the RHA Committee. Assessment criteria include:

  • Applicant eligibility

  • Demonstrated financial need

  • Availability of other funding sources

  • Current employment or enrolment status
