Joanna Cruickshank is a historian of Christianity in Australia and the British Empire. Her current research focuses primarily on the relationship between Christianity and colonisation in Australia and the British Empire, drawing on and extending methods developed in the fields of religious and colonial history, as well as critical race studies. This builds on a longer track record of research on the history of Christianity in eighteenth-century England. Her recent publications include articles and chapters on religion and policymaking in Australia, the Stolen Generations, and the history of theological education with Indigenous people since invasion. Her research on these topics has been informed by strong collaborative relationships with Indigenous researchers and communities, as she has sought to unlearn colonial ways of doing historical research.
