Emeritus Professor Bruce Mansfield
Emeritus Professor Bruce Mansfield AM died on Saturday 9 September 2017.
Bruce was a founding figure in establishing the Journal of Religious History. As John Gascoigne recalls in his paper, “The Journal of Religious History 1960–2010: The Changing Face of Religious History over Fifty Years’, Journal of Religious History 34.3 (2010), 262-271, Mansfield’s commitment to the notion of religious history reflected a broader interest in the history of mentalities, beyond a purely institutional understanding of religious history. His research interests in the early modern period, in particular in the image and reception of Erasmus, opened up new paths.
His continuing concern for the well-being of the Religious History Association gives cause for thanksgiving and celebration. May he rest in peace.
