The Religious History Association is proud to announce that Erc Dursteler is the winner of the 2016 Bruce Mansfield Prize for the article, “Fearing the ‘Turk’ and Feeling the Spirit: Emotion and Conversion in the Early Modern Mediterranean”, Journal of Religious History 39.4 (December 2015): 484-505.
The Bruce Mansfield prize is worth AUS$500 and is awarded for the best article published in the Journal of Religious History in the previous calendar year. It is named after the foundation editor of the journal, Professor Bruce Mansfield.
The selection committee considered it an outstandingly nuanced account of conversion in the early modern period.
